{tab=Day 1}

Day 1: Cape Town – Hermanus 150 km

We depart from Cape Town and take the beautiful coastal drive (Clarens drive) towards Hermanus. The route is well-known for its natural beauty, white sandy beaches, majestic mountains, a rich diversity in plant life and excellent wines. We visit beautiful waterfalls and learn about the indigenous flora at Harold Porter Nature Reserve. During whale season there are several opportunities to spot whales from the numerous vantage points along Walker Bay’s elevated rocky coastline (the best land-based viewing point in the world for whale–watching). We conclude the day with wine tasting at one of the well known estates in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley (meaning – “Heaven and Earth”). We will take you up the mountain to some great view points over looking Hermanus and the spectacular Walker Bay.

Day 2: Hermanus and surrounds

Leisure day to explore and enjoy the town of Hermanus. Adrenalin optional activity available on this day. Shark cage diving with Great White Sharks or join a boat-cruise for whale watching. Hermanus has world renowned beaches to enjoy and picturesque walks all along its shoreline.

Day 3: Hermanus – Oudtshoorn 350 km

This is a day of changing landscapes and beautiful contrasts. We leave the coastal areas and travel towards the Klein Karoo. Klein meaning “small” and Karoo is an old Khoi San word meaning “Land of thirst”. We travel through the third oldest town in South Africa, Swellendam and cross into the Klein Karoo via the very scenic Tradouw pass. Keep your eyes open for the Blue crane, South Africa’s national bird which is known to be found in this area.

This route brings you to the famous Route 62, known as the longest wine route in the world! Crossing the beautiful Huisrivier pass with its magnificent geological rock formations we head into Calitzdorp, well known as the Port Capital of South Africa. We stop at Bo plaas wine estate for port tasting. A short drive brings you to the feather capital of the world, Oudtshoorn, where we will spend the night.

Day 4: Oudtshoorn and surrounds

We will be spending the day around the Karoo town of Oudtshoorn, which is situated between the spectacular Swartberg and Outeniqua passes. We visit one of the many ostrich show farms in the area and learn about this fascinating bird, which played such a big economic role in this town. The tranquil Schoemanshoek Valley leads us to the world renowned Cango Caves, Oudtshoorn’s oldest and most popular attraction.

To date three systems of limestone caverns have been discovered and a part of these magical caves will be explored by us! We end our day with a late-afternoon drive up the Swartberg pass, with its soaring cliff walls and rock formations, a truly spectacular world heritage site!

Day 5: Oudtshoorn – Plettenberg Bay 150 km

This morning you have time to explore Oudtshoorn a little further, either participating in one of the many optional activities or a bit of free time in this town with its numerous museums, interesting architectural relics and National monuments. The road from Oudshoorn towards the Garden Route leads us to the spectacular Outeniqua pass!

After a brief photo stop we travel through George and the winding Kaaimans pass, towards the beautiful coastal town of Wilderness, which is well known for its unspoilt sandy beaches. We head for one of South Africa’s favorite towns, Knysna, where you have a bit of time to explore the waterfront and optional oyster tasting, before heading to our accommodation in Plettenberg Bay.

Day 6: Plettenberg Bay and surrounds

The lush vegetation, mountains, lagoons, rivers, beaches and sea combine to make the Garden Route a visual treat. We leave Plettenberg Bay and travel further along the coast, passing pretty coastal towns and picturesque estuaries. The Bloukrans Bridge crosses a deep ravine, which is the site of the world’s highest bungy, a full 216m in height. We stop at the viewpoint for a look at this spectacular site, and an optional bungy jump.

Another 20km brings us to one of South Africa’s national parks, The Tsitsikamma National Park. Tsitsikamma means “place of the sparkling waters”. With its rugged coast, thriving indigenous forest, panoramic views and abundance of fresh water from streams, this park is a paradise to visitors. We spend the afternoon in the park, which gives you ample time for different hiking trails and taking pictures, or just relaxing at the restaurant with its views over the sea.

Day 7: Plettenberg Bay – Amakhala Game Reserve (full board) 415 km

Depart early morning with lunch on route. You will arrive at the Game Reserve during the afternoon. Book in and freshen up followed by an evening game drive and dinner. Experience a Big 5 Safari Adventure on malaria free Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Included in your stay are morning and evening game drives leaving from your lodge. You will be guided by informative, professional rangers through Amakhala Game Reserve in open Land Rovers. Here you can return to nature and explore the abundant wildlife, the diverse vegetation and the dramatic landscape of the Eastern Cape.

Day 8: Game Reserve (full board incl game drives)

On Amakhala Game Reserve’s 18 000 acres the animals that you are likely to encounter are: lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, monkeys, tortoise and plenty of antelope species. You might be lucky and see some of the more elusive and shy animals like hyena or bat eared fox.

This is your chance to be privileged enough to see the world famous African animals close up in their own habitat .The focus of the game drives is not only the large majestic beasts but also the humble smaller mammals, birds and insects which will leave you in awe. The reserve hosts five of South Africa’s seven biomes, bushveld to savannah. For a change of pace relax on board the boat cruise while meandering lazily along the Bushman’s River.

Refreshment breaks have been included to make your safari experience that much more enjoyable. This safari experience will create memories which will linger for a life time.
