AND THE RAMSKOP FLOWER GARDENS
09h00: We travel along the N7 and over the Piekenierskloof Pass which is considered as the “gateway” to the North. We stop along the way for a cup of tea and from Citrusdal onward the flower show starts. There should be lovely patches of flowers along the roadside between Citrusdal and Clanwilliam.
In Clanwilliam we enjoy a light lunch and in the afternoon we visit the Ramskop Flower Gardens,
a Rooibos Tea Factory and/or the Clanwilliam Flower Show.
This means that we have a full program before heading off to Vanrhynsdorp where we overnight.

THE NIEUWOUDVILLE WATERFALL AND THE KOKERBOOM FOREST
08h00: After a hearty breakfast we visit the succulent nursery in Vanrhynsdorp to marvel at the collection of plants that are so well adapted to this harsh climate. We then head up the spectacular Vanrhyns’ Pass to Nieuwoudville where our first stop is for tea and pancakes at the lovely old sandstone Dutch Reformed Church. The rest of the morning is spent exploring the flower wonder of the farm Matjiesfontein.
If time allows we could pop in to the Hantam Botanical Gardens to enjoy a short interpretive walk before our light lunch in Nieuwoudville.
To end off the day we visit the Nieuwoudville Waterfall and the fascinating Kokerboom Forest.

Along the way we stop for tea at the quaint Garies Padstal before we head off to Kamieskroon and the Namaqua National Park (also known as Skilpad). Here we would like to spend at least 3 hours since this is a photographer’s floral delight where we will feast the eye and enjoy a packed picnic lunch.
We need to be on our way again by 15h00 for our final destination of the day, the Okiep County Lodge.
Accommodation: Okiep Country Lodge (www.okiep.co.za)

With a bit of luck and some good rains, the flower display should be spectacular – we will take you where the flowers are at their best and fit in a few interesting cultural sites in the morning.
We enjoy a light lunch in Springbok and in the afternoon we head south again to Vredendal.
