DAY 1 - PIEKENIERSKLOOF PASS, CLANWILLIAM & THE PAKHUIS PASS THROUGH THE CEDERBERG, THE RAMSKOP FLOWER GARDENS & KLAWER WINE CELLARS

09h00: Once we have all “on board” we travel along the N7 and cross over the Piekenierskloof Pass which is considered as the “gateway” to the North.  Along the way we stop for a cup of tea and a snack and from Citrusdal onward there should be lovely patches of flowers along the roadway as well as vast groves of citrus and Rooibos tea plantations.
We have a busy day in Clanwilliam where we will visit their annual Wildflower Show, enjoy a light lunch, visit a Rooibos Tea Factory as well as the Ramskop Gardens for a display of regional plants.
On the way to Vanrhynsdorp we hope to pop into the Klawer Winery for a quick wine-tasting.

which is referred to as “The Bulb Capital of the World”.  Our first stop is the ancient Kokerboom Forest to catch the early morning light and then on to the Nieuwoudville Waterfall after which we visit the gracious Gothic sandstone Dutch Reformed church for morning tea and pancakes.
In the afternoon we will explore the farm Matjiesfontein and the Hantam Botanical Gardens.  During our busy day we will enjoy a light lunch in Nieuwoudtville.

DAY 3 – VANRHYNSDORP SUCCULENTS, THE KNERSVLAKTE, A COASTAL DRIVE
ALONG THE SANDVELD TO LAMBERTSBAAI AND THEN ON TO VELDDRIFT

09h00:  This morning we will visit a succulent nursery in Vanrhynsdorp to marvel at the rare collection of plants that are so well adapted to this harsh climate.  We drive to a special spot in the so-called “Knersvalkte” where we will take a walk amongst the miniature succulents.
After tea we go in search of coastal vegetation and flowers of the so-called “Sandveld biome”.  Now we travel Southwards along the N7 back to Clanwilliam where we make a right-turn to Lamberts’ Bay on the coast where we have a light lunch and visit the fascinating “Bird Island”.
After lunch we continue on our way to Velddrif where we should see many plants that have adapted so well to the harsh coastal conditions.
Before checking into our “port-side” accommodation we will take a stroll down “Bokkomlaan” for a glimpse into the “local-is-lekker” culture of this Westcoast fishing community.
