Hermanus is considered the “Whale watching capital of South Africa”.

During the months of July till beginning December, the Southern Wright Whales come all the way from the South Pole to spend 6 months in the South African cold water.

Hermanus is the “Kindergarten” of the Southern Wright Whale. Whales come to this sheltered bay to have their calves and stay with them for a few months – for us to slow down and to enjoy the best whale-watching from land or from a boat. All of a sudden we realize how small we are and how magnificent and gentle these Southern Wright Whales are.
